Love the flexibility of this recipe, I like to add a handful of oats or Weetbix to give the crumble a bit of texture.
Another good recipe by good old faithful Edmonds Cookbook. I subbed half the sugar for icing sugar to make it more melt in the mouth.
Recipe is wrong. Butter / flour ratio is too high. I altered it by adding more flour, oat flakes, desiccated coconut to the topping , and nutmeg and ginger to make the apple filling more interesting.
It's not the same as what I grew up with from Edmonds cool book.
Had to add a lot more flour to get anything other than a soft paste for the topping. Possibly better if you use real, chilled butter rather than soft butter or margarine.
Use this recipe all the time, I sometimmes add a little cinnamon to the crumble mix.
